The Mets made a long list of moves Friday afternoon before the start of their series against the Pirates in Pittsburgh. The biggest news is that Griffin Canning ruptured his Achilles and has been placed on the 60-day injured list.

Blade Tidwell is expected to join the Mets bullpen Friday in Pittsburgh, per Andy Martino of SNY. In a separate roster move, the Mets are sending outfielder Jared Young down to Triple-A Syracuse.

The Mets are activating Mark Vientos on Friday. No word yet on the pitcher who will be sent down.

The Tidwell promotion comes after Griffin Canning suffered an Achilles injury in a 4-0 victory against the Braves. The 24-year-old rookie has made two starts for the Mets this year, most recently a week ago in Philadelphia, where he gave up two earned runs in 3 2/3 innings and struck out four.

Tidwell (0-1, 9.82 ERA) may be used in relief or as a spot starter, Martino reported.

Young, who made his Mets debut on May 24, went 7-for-41 (.171) with three home runs, four RBIs and fifteen strikeouts in 17 games at designated hitter. His demotion means the Mets are keeping Ronny Mauricio (.226/.273/.403, three home runs) on the roster. Mark Vientos  is also set to return Friday.

The Mets (48-34) open a three-game set against the last-place Pirates (32-50) Friday with a 1/2 game lead on the Phillies (47-34) in the National League East.
