As the reigning World Series champions, the Dodgers are suitably represented among the nominees for the ESPY Awards, which will be televised on Wednesday, July 16 on ABC.

Shohei Ohtani, who won the 2024 National League MVP after the first 50-50 season in baseball history, is one of four nominees for best athlete in men’s sports, along with Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley, and Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Ohtani, Allen, and Gilgeous-Alexander won MVP awards in the most recent season, while Ohtani, Barkley and Gilgeous-Alexander won championships.

Freddie Freeman, who hit the first walk-off grand slam in World Series history to beat the Yankees in Game 1 of the Fall Classic last October, is a nominee for best championship performance, along with Simone Biles and Stephen Curry each for the 2024 Summer Olympics, and Rory McIlroy for winning The Masters to complete the career grand slam.

Both Ohtani and Freeman are nominees for the best MLB player ESPY, along with Aaron Judge and Tarik Skubal.

The Dodgers were nominated for best team, along with the Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers, WNBA champion New York Liberty, college football playoff winner Ohio State, the Oklahoma City Thunder, Philadelphia Eagles, North Carolina Tar Heels women’s lacross, U.S. Women’s national soccer team, and the UConn women’s basketball team.
