At press time Monday, the Los Angeles Dodgers had widened their lead on the second-place San Diego Padres to seven games in the National League West Division.
Three Dodgers pitchers combined on a five-hitter Sunday, and the Dodgers beat the Kansas City Royals 5-1 at Kansas City. Justin Wrobleski (4-2), the second of the four pitchers the Dodgers used, pitched six innings to get the win. Wrobleski blanked the Royals on three hits.
At press time, the Detroit Tigers had fattened their lead on the second-place Cleveland Guardians to 11.5 games in the American League Central. In the NL East, the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets had swapped positions again. After re-taking the division lead, the Mets slipped 1.5 games behind the Phillies with three straight losses.
Monday, the Padres were to start their series in Philadelphia, and the Dodgers were to finish their series at Kansas City. All three Southern California MLB teams were slated to be in action Tuesday. The Padres were to resume their series at Philadelphia, the Dodgers were to open their home series against the Chicago White Sox and the Los Angeles Angels were to start their series at Atlanta. Â
