Verona stayed tied atop the Western Section in Home Talent Sunday League play with Belleville after the Cavaliers beat Pine Bluff/Mount Horeb 17-6 on Sunday, June 29.

The Cavaliers improved to 6-1 in the Home Talent League Western Section with a road win at Mount Horeb. Verona won two HTL Night League games last week. The Cavaliers knocked off Black Earth 9-5 on Friday, June 27, and clipped Ashton 3-2 on Thursday, June 26. With a pair of wins, Verona improved to 6-1 in the Night League.

Verona 9, Black Earth 5

Dylan Hesch went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Cavaliers to a road win.

Verona trailed 5-1 entering the top of the seventh inning. The Cavaliers broke the game open with an eight-run seventh.

Ryan Ambrosy went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Jacob Slonim finished 2-for-4 at the plate. Owen Davis blasted a three-run triple in the seventh to spark the Cavaliers.

Davis picked up the win on the mound. He gave up one earned run on five hits in three innings of relief. Davis struck out one and walked one. Hesch started the game on the mound, and surrendered two earned runs on five hits, while striking out three and walking two. Aidan Williams drove in two runs.

Verona 3, Ashton 2 (8 innings)

Brady Patten went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs to propel Verona over Ashton.

Patten was just a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. He hit a solo home run to left to tie the game at 2 in the sixth. Patten delivered a game-winning RBI double in the eighth.

The Cavaliers rallied from a two-run deficit. Ambrosy went 2-for-3.

Sam Pederson pitched seven two-hit shutout innings in relief and struck out nine to earn the win. Riley Peterson started on the mound and gave up two earned runs on two hits. He struck out one and walked one.
