Opening Day at Sutter Health Park is around the corner. On Monday the Athletics will take on the Chicago Cubs for their inaugural game in Sacramento.
The A’s will play at Sutter Health Park for the next three seasons before moving to Las Vegas.
With the game and new season approaching soon, businesses in Sacramento are preparing to have a lot of foot traffic on game days.
Franquette and Drake’s: The Barn, are both within walking distance from Sutter Health Park. They are ready and eager for the season to start.
Franquette is a small French-inspired all-day cafe that is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The cafe uses local produce and supplies but cooks traditional French recipes, including croissants, soups, and salads. It also has a wine bar.
Franquette’s chef, Elena Winks, said the business is really excited about Opening Day in West Sacramento, and they’ve done a lot of preparation ahead of the baseball season.
“We basically designed an additional menu that will replace our normal menu on game days, starting two hours before each game so it’s a more limited menu that’s a little bit more baseball-esque but still very much like Franquette and French inspired,” Winks said.
Winks said the menu items will include ham and cheese and Nutella crepes, a sausage dish, and a potato roasty dish with a cheese fondue. The cafe will also serve some grab- and- oo quick street food on the side, according to Winks.
Watch Parties
Drake’s: The Barn, the beer garden located near Sutter Health Park, will be hosting a Welcome to Sactown home opener watch party.
The event will include live music, food and beverage specials, and a showing of the game for those who cannot attend.
Drakes’ retail and events manager, Joseph Lozoya, said having the new Major League Baseball team in close proximity to The Barn is an exciting opportunity for the business and our city.
“We’ve been prepping for a while now just to prepare our team with strategies and new ways to engage that demographic audience,” Lozoya said. “So we’re excited for the opportunities and the challenges it brings. We think it’s gonna be good for business.”
Lozoya said The Barn will have specials that rotate throughout the year for game days. The beer garden will also show important games throughout the year, including when the San Francisco Giants come to Sacramento on July 4th weekend.
“Overall, our service model is here and ready to handle the droves of people,” he said. “We’re a big space, and we’re excited for everybody to hang out with us. Drake’s a really cool place for people to come and hang out before and after the game.”
If you can’t make it to West Sacramento, Tipsy Putt, the mini-golf bar in the Downtown Commons, hosts a Welcome A’s Party where you can win tickets to a future A’s game.
Other bars in Sacramento where you can watch the game for Opening Day include Tom’s Watch Bar, Public House Downtown and Barwest Midtown.
