The Philadelphia Phillies widened their lead in the National League East Division and dropped the San Diego Padres farther back in the NL West Monday.

Zack Wheeler (8-3) shut out the Padres on six hits over eight innings, and Nick Castellanos hit a solo homer in the fifth inning as the Phillies won 4-0 at Philadelphia. The Phillies increased their lead over the New York Mets to two games in the NL East. The Padres dropped to 7.5 games back of the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West.

At press time, all three Southern California MLB teams were slated to be in action Tuesday. The Padres were to resume their series against the Phillies, the Los Angeles Angels were to open their series in Atlanta against the Braves and the Dodgers were to start their home series against the Chicago White Sox.

The Padres-Phillies series will conclude Wednesday. The Angels-Braves and White Sox-Dodgers series will resume that day.
