MLB Execs Believe Red Sox Could Make Disappointing Alex Bregman Decision originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Boston Red Sox are among the most polarizing teams to watch at the MLB trade deadline. With plenty of needs on the roster and a ton of talent that could be on the block, every team will be watching what the Red Sox do.

Those teams, specifically the MLB executives leading those teams, believe that the Red Sox could make a disappointing decision with Alex Bregman. Jim Bowden of The Athletic shared what the executives believe Boston will do with Bregman at the deadline.
“This was another shocking name to me,” Bowden wrote, “But some execs believe the Red Sox could move on from Bregman at the trade deadline if they can’t extend him by then.”
If the Red Sox did move on from Bregman, it’d be met with massive frustration from the fans. They already traded Rafael Devers, a franchise icon. If Bregman leaves, too, the Red Sox fans will be more than disappointed with the team.
Craig Breslow has been adamant about not trading away their players at the deadline. He’s expecting the Red Sox to be buyers. But if Bowden’s report from other MLB executives comes true, the Red Sox will lose another superstar by the MLB trade deadline.

The only solace for such a move would be the potential return. But, as evident in the Devers deal, the Red Sox might not land a return that moves the needle for the fans.

Bregman has a lot of control over where he’s going next, as he can opt out of his current $120 million deal after 2025. A team trading for him would likely lower their offer due to the potential that Bregman is only there for half a season.
This report from Bowden is a worrying update in the trade rumors surrounding Bregman. It’s an indication that MLB executives believe there’s a decent chance he’s traded.
It’s not a speculation but a belief from MLB executives that the Red Sox are considering such a move. After losing Devers, Boston would be irate if Bregman were also on his way out the door.
What’s been a disappointing season so far could get a whole lot worse if this belief from MLB executives comes true. Bregman would be gone, and the Red Sox would likely be out of the postseason hunt again.
