Wednesday night’s game looks to be another memorable night in the 2025 season.
All-Star starters will be announced before game time, and the Dodgers look to have at least three starters – Shohei Ohtani at designated hitter, Freddie Freeman at first base, and Will Smith at catcher. They also have five players that are currently second in voting, or in the top six with regards to the outfield. The Dodgers could almost have their entire starting lineup appearing in the All-Star game.
Wednesday night is Yoshinobu Yamamoto bobblehead night. Fresh off another gem outing on Tuesday night, Yamamoto will be feted pre-game, and will most likely be a part of the All-Star pitching staff. Dave Roberts, who will manage the National League team in the game as World Series manager, could go rogue and name Yamamoto the starter for that game. Paul Skenes and Zack Wheeler would have a little something to say about that, but who cares about that.
There’s also some guy named Clayton Kershaw going for a milestone that only 19 other pitchers have achieved in their careers, and that no other may achieve again — 3,000 strikeouts. The Dodgers did a good job making sure that Kershaw achieves this milestone at home. Kershaw will be the only lifetime Dodger to do so.
A fun little fact about Jim Wolf, who is scheduled to be behind the plate for the game this evening from my friend Todd Munson, via Twitter – Wolf was the first base umpire for Kershaw’s big league debut, and was behind the plate for Kershaw’s first big league win.
I fell hard down the rabbit hole last night and learned Jim Wolf was the 1B umpire for Kershaw’s big league debut and a couple months later he was behind the plate for his first win. https://t.co/hvlPOpWIqV

(As an aside, every time I see that Nolan Ryan has 5,714 strikeouts it just blows my mind.)
The Dodgers somehow just continue add to their lead in the NL West. They currently are 7½ games ahead of the Padres, when they were only a game apart just three weeks ago.
Facing off against Kershaw for the White Sox will be Brandon Eisert, a lefty with a 2-1 record and a 4.33 ERA. He will be the opener and will be followed by Sean Burke. Burke had one bad outing on June 11th against the Houston Astros but otherwise has allowed two runs or fewer over his last five starts.
