Iowa Cubs

The Iowa Cubs were tarred and feathered by the Toledo Mud Hens (Tigers), 7-3.

Connor Noland got the start and lasted 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. He walked three and struck out three.

Trevor Miller came on to pitch the eighth inning in a rehab assignment and it did not go well. He retired the first batter, but the next five batters all reached before Miller exited. I wasn’t watching this game at this time, but it appears Miller suffered a setback in his recovery. The final line on Miller was four runs, three earned, on four hits and a walk over a third of an inning.

Third baseman Matt Shaw went 2 for 4 with a double and a triple. He tripled in a run in the fifth inning and then scored on a double by center fielder James Triantos. Triantos was 1 for 4.

Shortstop Ben Cowles doubled twice in a 2 for 4 game. He had one RBI.

Right fielder Greg Allen went 2 for 4.

Knoxville Smokies

The Knoxville Smokies got in the eyes of the Chattanooga Lookouts (Reds), 3-0.

Four Smokies pitchers combined of a three-hit shutout. Starter Antonio Santos gave up just two hits over four innings. He walked one and struck out five.

Tyler Santana pitched the next two innings and got the win. He gave up the other hit. He struck out one and walked no one.

Mitchell Tyranski took over for 1.2 innings, giving up no hit but walking one and hitting one batter. Tyranski struck out two.

A.J. Puckett faced four batters and retired them all for the save. He struck out three of them.

Left fielder Darius Hill was 2 for 3 with two walks and two runs scored.

Third baseman B.J. Murray Jr. was 2 for 4 with a walk.

South Bend Cubs

The South Bend Cubs fell to the Ft. Wayne TinCaps (Padres), 8-4.

Nick Dean started and took the loss, giving up three runs on six hits over five innings. Dean did struck out seven while walking just one.

The big issue was Marino Santy, who relieved Dean and got battered for five runs, four earned, on two hits, two walks and two hit batsmen over 1.2 innings. Santy struck out two.

Right fielder Andy Garriola hit a solo home run in the sixth inning, his fifth on the year. Garriola was 1 for 4.

Shortstop Cristian Hernandez went 2 for 4 with a stolen base.

Second baseman Reivaj Garcia was 2 for 4 and scored once.

DH Drew Bowser went 1 for 2 with two walks and one run scored.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans were left stranded by the Delmarva Shorebirds (Orioles), 9-6.

Rough start tonight for Nazier Mulé, who got the loss after surrendering eight runs on four hits and four walks over three innings. Mulé struck out three.

Center fielder Leonel Espinoza hit a solo home run in the fourth inning, his fourth on the season. Espinoza went 2 for 5. He scored twice and drove home two.

First baseman Cameron Sisneros was 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI single in the fifth inning. He scored twice.
