Calls Mount for Changes After Mets GM’s Message on Thursday originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The New York Mets showcased their hot-and-cold nature in a span of a few hours on Wednesday. They lost the first game of their doubleheader with the Milwaukee Brewers 7-2 before winning the second contest 7-3, but they’ll need more performances like the latter one to regain the division lead.

The Mets are two games behind the Philadelphia Phillies for first place in the NL East ahead of Thursday night’s slate. They’d be in a better position if not for their recent slide, as they’re 3-7 in their last 10 games and were on a four-game losing streak before Wednesday night’s win.
General manager David Stearns got honest about the state of his team on Thursday, via SNY.

“I think we’re a good team. I think we have good players,” he said. “I think we’re certainly much better than we’ve played over the last three weeks. I think everyone in our clubhouse would agree with that.”
“But I’d also be foolish not to look at the last two-and-a-half weeks and recognize that we haven’t played well and there are probably areas where we need to get better,” he admitted.

Mets fans on social media are not happy.
“Need help David?????? CF DH 3rd base. Bullpen, set up man, starter,” one suggested.
“How did NO ONE in that room ask David Stearns why none of Alvarez, Vientos, Baty, Mauricio or Acuña have done anything this year?! Bottom of the lineup has been the biggest problem all season,” another said.
“Earth to Stearns, need real pitchers,” another said. “Not rejects from other teams that you’re hoping the pitching lab will make into an ace.”
“Get a real center fielder and pitching,” another said.
“What about getting some SP and RP LIKE TODAY,” another one pleaded.
Injuries to the pitching staff haven’t helped, as Kodai Senga (hamstring), Tylor Megill (elbow), Sean Manaea (oblique), Dedniel Núñez (elbow), Paul Blackburn (shoulder), Max Kranick (flexor), Brooks Raley (elbow), Griffin Canning (Achilles), Drew Smith (elbow), A.J. Minter (lat), Danny Young (elbow), and Christian Scott (elbow) are all on the IL. However, New York must win shorthanded to keep pace with Philadelphia.
