ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – The Atlanta Braves open a three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles on Friday, marking the eighth of 15 regular season games broadcast on Gray Media in 2025.
Atlanta is 39-47 and over 10 games back in the NL East. It lost the backbone of its rotation in Spencer Schwellenbach (3.09 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in 110.2 innings) to a fractured right elbow, the Braves announced Wednesday.
The Braves’ season has been marked by mounting frustration, as they’ve now lost four starting pitchers to injuries.
Reynaldo López had arthroscopic shoulder surgery back in April. AJ Smith-Shawver followed with Tommy John surgery in June. Chris Sale is sidelined until August due to a fractured rib, and now Schwellenbach is out for an extended period.
Joe Jimenez threw his first bullpen on Tuesday and is eyeing a potential return in August.
