What seems like many years ago, the Detroit Tigers had Michael Fulmer on their roster.
Fulmer was expected to be one of the better starters in baseball at the time, but he dealt with a few injuries and other factors. Unfortunately, the right-hander’s time in Detroit didn’t always go as planned, but there shouldn’t be any hard feelings from either side.

A first-round pick of the New York Mets during the 2011 MLB draft, Fulmer has been around the league quite a bit.
He was an All-Star during the 2017 campaign for the Tigers, the best season of his career. The last time he pitched in Detroit was in 2022, when he had a 3.20 ERA. His numbers were impressive there, but there were parts where he struggled.
Since, however, Fulmer hasn’t been able to find a full-time job, and has thrown with the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs during this season.
According to MLB Trade Rumors, he’s now on another team, signing a minor league deal with the Kansas City Royals.

“The Royals announced Thursday that they’ve signed righty Michael Fulmer to a minor league contract. He’s been assigned to Triple-A Omaha. Fulmer, a client of BBI Sports Group, recently passed through waivers and elected free agency after being designated for assignment by the Cubs,” they wrote.

The Tigers are in a strong position in the standings, with the Royals 13.5 games behind, as they appear poised to win the division, barring any drastic developments.
It remains uncertain if Fulmer will get an opportunity to throw at the big league level, but with some of the Royals’ decisions they have to make over the next month, which could include moving multiple pitchers, it’s possible that he could find a way on the big league roster.
