Rewind back to the early 90s when the Colorado Rockies came to Denver and all the buzz was first at Mile High, then lower downtown Denver as our iconic Coors Field began to take shape.

Opened for the 1995, it instantly revitalized that area of downtown and soon came some of the most iconic hot spots the state of Colorado has ever seen.

One of them opened in 1996 and has proudly served up gameday brews and food ever since – at 1320 20th Street in the old Marcus Hotel building that had gone by the wayside for years prior.

The Giggling Grizzly – or The Griz as it’s been affectionately referred to for many years – was a place that if you were going to catch a ballgame at any point, you probably stopped by before or after. It was just one of those places.

But as of yesterday, it is no more.

The building where the Griz was housed was sold back in 2022 to Monfort Companies, which then announced a massive project on the block, aimed at further revitalizing the neighborhood and adding some fresh new concepts to the building with a fresh coat of paint, so to speak.

Westword reports that the site, along with its former neighbor El Chapultepec, may even break ground later this month.

In a post on their social media accounts, The Griz had this to say:

As many of you know, some local developers bought the building that the Giggling Grizzly has been doing business in for nearly 30 years,” the bar announced last month on social media. “We came out here all those years ago to expand our hospitality properties to the Rockies, but what we found was family and friends. We have had sooo many ups, and sadly, some pretty sad downs, but we have loved every minute of it. We are so grateful to all of our Managers, Team Members, Vendors, our Hospitality Family on the block and You…our Guests!!!…Although our time in LoDo is coming to an end, the memories will last a lifetime. So…our last day of business will be Sunday July 6th 2025. We will have one last 4th of July weekend with the Rockies and fireworks, and many days in between to come say Hi to all of our awesome team, and goodbye to a place that we hope has brought you many smiles, laughs, and maybe even a headache the next day:). Cheers to you all and we appreciate and love you!!

Long live old Denver history and long live The Griz!

10 Favorite Colorado Rockies Players of All-Time

Some truly great players have worn the Rockies uniform, however, you’ll find only one in the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.
