FLATWOODS — Phillip Jones’ North Laurel 10U Softball All-Stars are two wins away from bringing home the 10U State Championship after turning in two stellar results over the weekend in state tournament play.

Jones’ squad is currently 7-0 in All-Star play, outscoring their opponents, 81-24, during the process.

North Laurel has dominated its opponents thanks to solid pitching and hitting — both of those stood out in wins over Russell-Flatwoods and Russell County over the weekend.

North Laurel 10U All-Star Channing Robinson tossed six innings, allowing only five hits and two earned runs while striking out 11 batters during Saturday’s 7-2 win over Russell-Flatwoods.

Lanny Kate Greer led the way at the plate with two hits, an RBI, and a run scored while Robinson went 2-for-2, and scored once.

North Laurel cruised to an easy 18-5 win over Russell County, scoring 14 runs during the first two innings.

Channing Robinson pitched two scoreless and hitless innings to notch the win while striking out a batter. Kylie Buckles also pitched two innings, allowing three hits and five earned runs while striking out two batters.

North Laurel collected 15 hits with six of those going for extra bases.

Sienna McClure had another huge game at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three RBI while Priya Carpenter drove in a team-best four runs with a hit and scored twice. Robinson was 2-for-2 with an RBI and three runs scored.

Jones’ squad dominated District 4 action, defeating Clay County, 7-2, while rolling past Rockcastle County, 17-0. North Laurel defeated South Laurel in the District 4 finals, 5-3.

North Laurel will play in the winner’s bracket finals game Tuesday at 7 p.m.
