The Texas Rangers scored 13 runs while the Anaheim Angels scored one run.
After all of the unpleasant ways that the Rangers have lost games this season, immediately trailing in the first inning due to an error didn’t do much for the mood. It would have been easy to think “here we go again.”
Luckily those gloomy thoughts didn’t last too long as the Rangers broke through in the middle innings against Angels starter Jose Soriano and never looked back. Game after game of close contests leading to heartburn and heartache was cast aside for a much-needed good ol’ fashion blowout beatdown.
The Rangers got five runs in the fourth, four more in the fifth, a run apiece in the sixth and seventh, and two more in the eighth. Overall they had seven extra base hits — including solo home runs from Corey Seager and Jake Burger and a two-run shot by Wyatt Langford — and six hits in ample RISP situations.
Burger led the way with three hits and four RBI. Both young outfielders Langford and Evan Carter produced runs in bases loaded situation, the bane of the entire season for Texas.
It’s been a frustrating road trip in a frustrating week in a frustrating month in a frustrating season for the Rangers but tonight at least they beat the hell out of a division rival.
Player of the Game: Arguably Burger or Langford deserves the nod just for being immensely productive in a game where the bats had a big night, but the pitching has done it all season so Nathan Eovaldi earns the spotlight.
In his third start since returning from a month on the shelf, Eovaldi tossed six innings without giving up an earned run. Eovaldi allowed five hits but didn’t walk anyone while striking out six batters. Needing just 72 pitches, Eovaldi lowered his ERA to 1.62 on the year. He should be an All-Star.
