WHITEFISH, Mont. — Founded in 2025, the Flathead Adult Men’s Baseball League gives men ages 18 and up the opportunity to play recreational baseball.
The league is affiliated with the Men’s Senior and Men’s Adult Baseball Leagues.
The founder and organizer of the league, Nathan Dugan, told NBC Montana that for him to play ball, going out of state was the closest available option.
“Started going out to Spokane, which is the closest men’s league to us here in Whitefish and the Flathead, to play,” said Dugan. “Figured it was just a better use of my time to start my own league and do one out here. So rather than driving nine hours round-trip to Spokane and back.”
High school baseball became a sanctioned sport in Montana in 2022. This league proves there is a high interest in playing the sport in the Flathead Valley.
Five teams are participating in the league, with more than 60 players ranging from 18 to their mid-70s.
“I think recently baseball has grown in popularity with high school teams being created and the Pioneer team, the Range Riders down in Kalispell,” said Dugan. “I wouldn’t be surprised if there wasn’t one before, but as far as I know, people have been waiting for it for a while, and I’m just the first guy to do it.”
The league games are all free, so the public is encouraged to come, watch and support the men while they play some ball.
“When you’re out there playing, it’s nice to have people in the stands,” said Dugan. “The more people in here catching some free entertainment on a Saturday, Sunday, or weeknight—depending on when we’re playing our games—the better.”
The league is looking to grow next summer by creating more teams and finding more baseball fields to play on.
