DETROIT — After finding out Tuesday night he had been added to the American League All-Star team, Rays third baseman Junior Caminero said he didn’t have anything to say about whether he’d also participate in the Home Run Derby.
Wednesday morning, the 22-year-old made it quite clear that he would, posting the news on his Instagram account.
With 21 home runs entering play Wednesday, Caminero is tied for fourth most in the AL and ranks 10th in the majors.

He certainly has the potential to put on an impressive show, given his immense power and some of prodigious batting practice displays.
Shortly after his initial call-up in September 2023, Caminero launched a series of balls into the upper decks at Toronto’s Rogers Centre, drawing a rare standing ovation for a visiting player.
Other participants in Monday’s Derby include Atlanta’s Ronald Acuna Jr. (nine homers), Seattle’s Cal Raleigh (36), Washington’s James Wood (23), Minnesota’s Byron Buxton (20) and Pittsburgh’s Oneil Cruz (16). Two more players are expected to be added.
The derby is slated for 8 p.m. Monday, with coverage on ESPN.
