Dodgers Trade Idea Lands Guardians’ Emmanuel Clase for Andy Pages originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
At this year’s MLB trade deadline, the Los Angeles Dodgers could be in the market for relief pitching help. While the Dodgers have a decent collection of relievers who’ve been solid, they could use a sure-fire closer.

One way to add a closer could be through Jim Bowden of The Athletic’s trade idea, which would send Andy Pages to the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for All-Star closer Emmanuel Clase.
Bowden presented this trade idea from the Guardians’ perspective, as the team desperately needs offense and could use Clase to land such a player.
“The Guardians need offense.” Bowden writes. “If they trade Clase, they need to focus on young bats. Offer him to the Dodgers for Andy Pages.”
Of all the relievers expected to be on the trade market, he’d be the most intriguing option if Clase is one. While trading Pages, who is having a breakout season, would sting, landing Clase would elevate the bullpen drastically.

There is one caveat to a potential Clase deal. He would need to be back to his 2024 version of himself, and not the 2025 version, to make such a deal worth it for the Dodgers.
So far in 2025, he has a 3.12 ERA, 19 saves, 40 strikeouts, and 10 walks in 40.1 innings pitched. He has a strong 131 ERA+, but compared to 2024, this season has been a letdown.
A year ago, Clase had a remarkable 0.61 ERA, 47 saves, 66 strikeouts, and 10 walks in 74.1 innings pitched, good for an incredible 667 ERA+ and third place in Cy Young voting.
Pages is worth 2024 Clase, not the 2025 version. While he hasn’t performed half as well as he did in 2024, Clase would still be a nice addition to the Dodgers’ bullpen.

It’s an interesting trade idea from Bowden, but Pages’ production at the plate, .284/.325/.488, is too crucial for the Dodgers, especially with Michael Conforto’s struggles this season.
