According to multiple reports, three Texas Longhorns pitchers will opt out of the upcoming 2025 Major League Baseball Draft and return to Austin for another year under UT baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle. Ruger Riojas, Luke Harrison and Max Grubbs will be back at Texas again next year.
Riojas, a right handed pitcher, saw his production wane late in the 2025 season and his status as a top-500 prospect is now in question. Riojas starting strong in his first seven starts of the SEC conference season, allowing just 10 earned runs in 30 innings. But in his final four starts, Riojas gave up 25 earned runs, finishing out 2025 with a 5.61 ERA.Â
Grubbs’ return gives the bullpen a boost. The right hander had a 2.84 ERA with 61 strikeouts over 57 innings.
Harrison was Schlossnagle’s most statistically effective starting pitcher during the 2025 season. The lefty finished with a 3.06 ERA, striking out 72 batters in 70 2/3 innings during his redshirt junior campaign.Â
