HIROSHIMA (Kyodo) — Teruaki Sato homered and drove in two runs as the Hanshin Tigers beat the Hiroshima Carp 3-1 on Wednesday to extend their season-high winning streak to 10 games.
Sato hit his Japanese baseball-leading 22nd home run of the season in the second inning and broke a 1-1 tie in the third with an RBI grounder at Mazda Stadium.
Hanshin left-hander Kotaro Otake (5-1) allowed one run in 5-2/3 innings for the win. Daichi Osera (3-5) took the loss.
Shota Morishita tripled in an insurance run in the seventh.
Among the day’s other games, Franmil Reyes hit a grand slam in the Nippon Ham Fighters’ 13-1 rout of the Lotte Marines.
The SoftBank Hawks edged the Orix Buffaloes 1-0 after a pitching duel between Tomohisa Ozeki and Hiroya Miyagi.
