The Utica Association split a pair of Home Talent Sunday League games over the weekend.
The A’s lost to Stoughton 12-9 on Friday, July 4, at Utica Field. Utica bounced back to knock off Evansville 10-8 in another home game on Sunday, July 6.
Stoughton sits atop of the Southeast South Division standings with an 8-3 record. Both Utica and Evansville are a game back of Stoughton with 7-4 records.
Utica 10, Evansville 8
Utica trailed 4-1, but took a 7-4 lead after a six-run fourth. The A’s added two more runs in the fifth. Tyler Soule finished 2-for-5 with two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs. Owen Ernest added two hits and scored two runs. Brock Wanninger picked up the win on the mound in a complete-game performance. Wanninger gave up 10 hits to go along with 10 strikeouts.
Stoughton 12, Utica 9
Stoughton scored four runs the first two innings and broke the game open to take a 10-3 lead after six runs in the top of the fifth. Utica’s five-run rally in the bottom of the ninth came up short as the A’s entered the bottom of the frame down 12-4.
Boston Beckwith and Ben Hildebrandt both drove in two runs for Utica. Ryan Ellingson led the A’s on the mound, allowing no hits or earned runs in three innings.
