At Petco Park: Rodriguez had found some consistency in previous starts until July 4, when the Kansas City Royals tagged him for eight earned runs on 12 hits, including three home runs, in 4⅓ innings. … The strikeouts have been there for him, with 87 in 15 starts. Rodriguez has had trouble keeping his pitch counts down, which is a reason he is averaging just over five innings per start. But he has shut out the Padres in his two career starts against San Diego over 11⅔ innings of work. He will be pitching at Petco Park for just the second time in his career. … Vasquez is set for his 19th start of the season. He has not won a game since May 14 and has eight straight no-decisions. He’s faced the Diamondbacks four times (three starts) with no decisions and a 2.95 earned run average. This season, Vasquez has 49 strikeouts and has issued 42 walks.
