Padres affiliates went 3-5 on Thursday.
Here is our daily recap of games played.
El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 6-4 vs Las Vegas) (48-42 on the season)
Yonathan Perlaza – 2-for-4, Double, RBI

Mike Brosseau – 2-for-3, Two Singles, Run Scored
Logan Gillaspie – 2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 1 K (51 pitches – 33 strikes)
Logan Gillaspie made his second Chihuahuas start of the season, but was knocked around for four runs. Gillaspie only lasted two innings, striking out one batter in his outing. Manuel Castro threw two scoreless innings in relief, striking out two batters and topped out at 94.5 mph, impressive for the 5-foot-8 right-hander. Omar Cruz allowed two runs in three innings of relief, and both Harold Chirino & Ron Marinaccio threw a scoreless frame apiece.
At the dish, Yonathan Perlaza and Mike Brosseau finished with two hits on the day. Perlaza had a double and drove in a run, hitting a baseball 110.2 mph off the bat. Nate Mondou drove in a run on an RBI single, and Forrest Wall had a sacrifice fly. Wall and Brandon Lockridge each stole a base, with Lockridge scoring a run. Clay Dungan finished 1-for-5 as the DH, with the team’s longest distance of the night (396 feet).
San Antonio Missions (Won 8-6 vs Wichita) (46-38 on the season)
Anthony Vilar – 3-for-4, Two-Run Home Run
Francisco Acuna – 2-for-5, RBI Single
Enmanuel Pinales – 5.2 IP, 8 H, 4 R (3 ER), 1 BB, 6 K (95 pitches – 59 strikes)
The Missions’ lineup did not have a single member go hitless in their win over Wichita, tallying eight runs on 14 hits. Anthony Vilar had two extra-base hits as part of a three-hit day, launching a two-run home run in the second inning. Francisco Acuna was one of four Missions batters with a multi-hit performance, driving in a run on an RBI single. Marcos Castanon and Albert Fabian each drove in a run in the second inning. Fabian has performed well since joining the Missions, hitting .308 with a 1.130 OPS. Romeo Sanabria finished with two singles, and Brandon Valenzuela was 1-for-4 with a sacrifice fly.

Enmanuel Pinales started for the Missions, and he had mixed results. The positives: Pinales pitched into the sixth inning and struck out six batters. He also only walked one, with these results reminiscent of his form in April. On the other side, he allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits. Three hits and three runs came in his final inning of work, so it could’ve been fatigue for the right-hander. Considering he missed time due to a suspension, it could be that he is getting back in game shape. Tyson Neighbors delivered 1.1 innings of scoreless ball with two strikeouts. Kevin Kopps pitched the final two innings, allowing two solo homers and striking out one.
Fort Wayne TinCaps (Won 3-0 vs Quad Cities) (41-42 on the season)
Leo De Vries – 2-for-4, Two Singles, RBI
Brandon Butterworth – 1-for-3, Two-RBI Single
Miguel Mendez – 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K (91 pitches – 62 strikes)
The summer of Miguel Mendez is back on schedule! The flame-throwing right-hander threw seven innings of scoreless ball, striking out six. Mendez was throwing gas all night, even touching 98 mph in the seventh inning. Mendez now has a 1.61 ERA with the TinCaps and has thrown three straight quality starts. Garrett Hawkins entered in the eighth and recorded a six-out save, securing the shutout with five strikeouts.
The Fort Wayne offense did enough in support of their pitching staff. Leo De Vries, one day before making his way to the All-Star Futures Game, finished 2-for-4 with an RBI infield single. Brandon Butterworth had a 1-for-3 day, driving in two runs on a sixth-inning single and stealing a pair of bases in the game. The former North Carolina State infielder has an .892 OPS this month and has reached base at a .333 clip. Brendan Durfee and Jacob Campbell each scored a run in the game, with Durfee drawing a walk in the game. Ryan Jackson and Oswaldo Linares each hit a single in the game.
Lake Elsinore Storm (Lost 7-4 vs Visalia) (38-46 on the season)
Kale Fountain – 1-for-5, RBI Double
Chase Valentine – 2-for-4, Two Doubles, Two Runs Scored
Boston Bateman – 3.2 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 3 BB, 4 K (69 pitches – 42 strikes)
Southpaw Boston Bateman endured the toughest start of his young career, as he was tagged for seven runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings of work. Bateman was able to strike out four batters, but constant base traffic from Visalia led to big innings in the third and fourth inning. It was a roadblock for Bateman, but one that he certainly can push forward from. The Storm’s bullpen pitched lights out the rest of the way; Vicarte Domingo struck out two in two scoreless innings, and Igor Gil continues to earn late-inning opportunities, tossing a scoreless frame.
The offense battled hard against Visalia’s Adonys Perez, putting up four runs on the southpaw. Colton Vincent got the Storm on the board with an RBI single to center field, and Kale Fountain (making his Lake Elsinore debut) drove in a run in his second at-bat, doubling to score Carlos Rodriguez. Rodriguez would later single to score Chase Valentine, who had two doubles in the game. Rodriguez scored his second run of the game on a single from Zach Evans, who added to his team-leading RBI total (59). Ryan Wilson was 1-for-4 at the dish, but picked up an outfield assist when he threw out Abdias De La Cruz at second base in the seventh.
Kale Fountain reached base twice in the Storm’s 7-4 loss at Visalia, hitting an RBI double in the second inning.

ACL Padres (Lost 9-6 vs ACL Royals) (12-38 on the season)
Jesmaylin Arias – 1-for-3, Home Run
Yimy Tovar – 3-for-5, RBI Single
Winyer Chourio – 2.1 IP, 4 H, 5 R (3 ER) 3 BB, 3 K
The ACL Padres’ hopes of a three-game winning streak were dashed when the team trailed 6-0 after three innings. Winyer Chourio was ambushed in the second and third innings, allowing five runs (three earned) in 2.1 innings. The right-hander walked three and struck out three. Manuel Davila allowed one run on two hits in 0.2 innings. Adan Moreno was one of two Padres pitchers to throw a scoreless inning, joined by Jordan Valenzuela. Roberto Burgos allowed two runs in an inning, throwing three wild pitches, and Jose Ortega allowed one run in two innings, walking two.
Yimy Tovar finished with three hits as the Padres’ DH, clearly feeling himself at the plate. Tovar was one of two Padres hitters with three hits and an RBI, as Donte Grant also had the same stat line. Ismael Javier and Gustavo Marquez each had singles from the bottom of the lineup, with Marquez scoring two runs. Jesmaylin Arias hit his second homer of the season in the eighth inning for the lone extra-base hit the Padres would pick up.
DSL Padres Gold – Split Doubleheader vs DSL LAD Mega (18-10 on the season)
Lost 5-4 in Game 1
Eddson Martinez – 2-for-4, Two RBI Singles
Alexander Garcia – 0-for-0, Sac Fly
Jose Montijo – 2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 1 K
In the completion of their July 7 game, the DSL Padres Gold lost a one-run affair. Picking up in the seventh inning, right-hander Jose Montijo took over on the mound but allowed three runs in two innings. Montijo allowed three hits and two walks, only striking out one. Eddson Martinez had given the Padres Gold a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh on an RBI single. Alexander Garcia got the team to within one in the ninth with a sacrifice fly, but the comeback stalled out one run short.
Padres Gold won 2-1 in Game 2
Yorvin Morla – 1-for-2, Single
Eduarlin Tejeda – 0-for-1, Walk, Run Scored
Jesus Castro – 4.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K
The Padres Gold avenged their Game 1 loss by throwing a seven-inning no-hitter. Jesus Castro started for the Padres Gold, throwing 4.2 innings of scoreless baseball. Castro punched out eight batters compared to one walk, and now has a 2.37 ERA this season. Johan Minaya walked two and allowed a run, but no hits. Jose Blanco closed out the win with five strikeouts and no hits allowed, finishing the combined no-no. At the plate, the Padres struck for just two hits, but scored two runs for the win. Yorvin Morla and Kevin Tamburini each hit a single, but neither factored into the scoring. In the bottom of the seventh, Deivid Coronil walked and was replaced by pinch-runner Jose Verdugo. Eduarlin Tejeda was plunked, and Fabian Alcantara was walked intentionally, setting up bases loaded with one out. Facing pinch-hitter Santiago Contreras, LAD pitcher Yuliangel De La Cruz’s first pitch was wild, allowing Verdugo to score. His second pitch was also wild, allowing Tejeda to score the winning run and walking off to secure the win and the no-no.
DSL Padres Brown (Lost 5-1 vs DSL Brewers Blue) (15-12 on the season)
Yonaiker Hernandez – 2-for-3, RBI Single
Tom Guerrero – 1-for-2, Double, Walk, Run Scored
Wilfred Paca – 4 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 1 K
Wilfred Paca pitched four innings for the Padres Brown, but allowed three runs on five hits in his start. Paca only struck out one, and seven fly ball outs indicated that Paca was allowing more barrels on the ball than he would have liked. Jeuris Guzman allowed two runs in an inning of work, throwing a wild pitch. Daniel Burciaga was the only Padres Brown pitcher to toss a scoreless frame, striking out one and walking one in one inning of work. At the plate, the team mustered four hits and one run. Half of their hits came from Yonaiker Hernandez, who gave the team a run with an RBI single. Tom Guerrero hit their only double of the game, reaching base twice and scoring the Padres’ lone run. Sebastian Pena went 1-for-2 in stolen base attempts in the game.
