Oxford, Miss. – In the third round of tonight’s 2025 MLB Draft, Mason Morris became the first Ole Miss player selected off the board with the 83rd overall pick.
The Tupelo native has been a staple of the Ole Miss bullpen from the moment he arrived on campus in 2022, appearing in 10 games and showing consistent flashes of potential upside.

Despite posting a 6.55 ERA the following year in 2024, Morris’s production took a large step forward, pitching 33 total innings and striking out 37 batters. Fortunately, heading into his junior year, Mike Bianco hired Joel Mangrum as the pitching coach for Ole Miss, changing the trajectory of Mason’s entire 2025 season.
In addition to being a crucial piece in bringing postseason baseball back to Oxford, Morris pitched in 54 innings while totaling 78 strikeouts and becoming an eye-opening MLB prospect. Analyzing his pitch mix, the right-hander was reliant on his fastball, sitting at 96-98 mph, paired with a slider in the mid-upper 80’s range.
Between his velocity, command, and overall work ethic, Morris will have a chance to make an impact in the Reds organization the second he arrives in the minor leagues.
