TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – Arizona’s Aaron Walton was selected 66th overall by the Cleveland Guardians in the 2nd round of the 2025 MLB Draft.

He is the 2nd member of the Wildcats’ College World Series outfield to be selected on day one of the draft. Brendan Summerhill was selected 42nd overall by the Tampa Bay Rays.

The U of A has had multiple picks selected for the 15th straight year.

After spending the first two years of his collegiate career at Samford, Walton transferred to Arizona for his junior season. Across 65 games he posted a .320 batting average with 71 runs scored, 22 doubles, two triples, 14 home runs, 49 RBI, a 1.026 OPS, and 19 stolen bases.

Walton was also defensive standout at center field. He posted an impressive .986 fielding percentage on 148 chances.

Arizona signee Cameron Millar was drafted 97th overall by the Kansas City Royals. There’s a good chance the right-handed pitcher goes pro instead of coming to Tucson.

Several other Wildcats and U of A signees are expected to hear their names called on Day 2 of the draft. That includes catcher Adonys Guzman and Tucson native/shortstop Mason White.

Rounds 4-20 continue Monday, July 14 at 8:30 a.m. Tucson time.
