Texas baseball team won 2005 national championship

Five facts about the 2005 Texas baseball team, which won the Longhorns’ sixth national championship.

Texas baseball catcher Rylan Galvan was selected Monday by the Chicago White Sox with the 376th overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft.

Galvan, a junior, has the option to decline to sign with the White Sox and return to school. Picked outside the top 10 rounds, Galvan’s draft position carries no slot value.

The product of Sinton High School leapt up draft boards thanks to an elite season at the plate in 2025. After posting an .898 on-base plus slugging playing in the Big 12 in 2024, Galvan produced a 1.065 OPS and nearly doubled his home run total to 15 in the SEC — widely accepted as the top conference in college baseball.

He also served as the backstop for the best pitching staff in the conference, as he claimed first-team All-SEC honors.

Anticipating his selection, Longhorns coach Jim Schlossnagle dove into the transfer portal for a replacement. Notre Dame’s Carson Tinney, who batted .348 with 1.251 OPS and 17 home runs last season, will play for Texas in 2026.
