Governor Kehoe commented on Kansas’s decision to extend the deadline for the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals to decide on relocating to the state, saying it is “not necessarily a bad sign.”

Last week, Kansas lawmakers voted to extend the deadline from the original June 30 date to December 31.

Last summer, Kansas approved the use of bonds to cover 70% of the costs for building new stadiums in the state.

Meanwhile, in June, the Missouri legislature approved a stadium funding plan offering to cover up to 50% of the costs for new or renovated stadiums in Missouri.

“Missouri has put its offer on the table. The county, our counties, will be doing the same soon. Missouri’s in a good position,” said a spokesperson.

“We’re going to fight hard to keep those jobs and that economic impact on this side of the state line.”

The Chiefs and Royals have played for more than five decades at the Truman Sports Complex.
