KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Royals have lost another pitcher in their starting rotation due to injury.

RHP Michael Lorenzen was placed on the 15-day IL on Monday after suffering a left oblique strain. The move is retroactive to July 11, meaning he can return on July 26.

He also missed his last scheduled start on Saturday against the Mets due to an illness.

This season, Lorenzen is 5-8 with a 4.61 ERA, 85 strikeouts and 29 walks. His most recent start was arguably the best of the season. He went seven innings, giving up only two hits and no runs in a win against the Diamondbacks on July 6.

The Royals starting rotation has dealt with injuries all season. They’re currently without ace Cole Ragans, who was recently placed on the 60-day IL due to a torn rotator cuff. Seth Lugo missed time in May due to a finger sprain and Alec Marsh has not played this season due to a right shoulder injury.

Lorenzen shouldn’t miss much time if his recovery goes well. The Royals don’t play again until Friday, when they head to Florida to face the Miami Marlins.
