Marte’s double brought Shohei Ohtani and Ronald Acuña Jr. home after they each reached base on soft singles.

It was the second baseman’s third All-Star start and second in a row after he was the NL’s lead-off man in 2024 with D-backs manager Torey Lovullo as skipper.

The Diamondbacks star entered the break slashing .290/.394/.567 with 19 home runs and 40 RBIs.

Reserves Eugenio Suarez and Corbin Carroll joined Marte on the NL squad.

Skubal, who played his prep ball at Kingman Academy, labored through the beginning of his start, but he sat down three straight batters after Marte’s knock.

It came after a spotless first inning from NL starter Paul Skenes, who became the first pitcher to start All-Star games in his first two seasons. Skenes was Lovullo’s starter in the 2024 Midsummer Classic.
