Georgia baseball is down to two series and the SEC tournament before it finds out where it will fit into the 64-team postseason bracket.
The NCAA Tournament field will be announced on Memorial Day.
That’s less than three weeks to go with NCAA Regional and Super Regional hosting rights at stake.
That comes with a top eight national seed.
“You can look at all the stuff, my view on that has always been leave no doubt,” Georgia coach Wes Johnson said. “Get in there. We’ve got six ballgames left. You go 0-6 you’re not doing anything, right? Last year we had 17 wins in the league and it was enough to be a national seed. I don’t know this year. You look and everybody’s jumbled right there in our league. You go look at RPIs and everything and the top I don’t know…the top 6 or 7 teams are all from our league. Does that mean they are going to give seven national (seeds). There are so many other factors that come in.”
Georgia is No. 1 in the RPI. The top five teams are from the SEC and six of the top nine.
The Bulldogs, ranked No. 6 in the USA TODAY coaches poll and No. 1 in Baseball America, play next in a weekend series at Alabama starting with a game on Friday, May 9.
Georgia (39-11, 15-9) carries the SEC’s longest winning streak of six games to Tuscaloosa after a weekend sweep at Missouri.
