Jim Schlossnagle: What to know about Texas baseball coach
Four things to know about Texas baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle
It’s shaping up to be a busy second day of the 2025 MLB Draft for Texas and Texas A&M baseball.
Several Longhorns are likely to be selected early on, with catcher Rylan Galvan, pitcher Jared Spencer and shortstop Jalin Flores all still on the board after Max Belyeu went 74th overall on Sunday night.
The Aggies had a more eventful Sunday. Jace LaViolette was selected in the first round by the Cleveland Guardians, with Justin Lamkin and Kaeden Kent going later on. Lefthanded hurler Shane Sdao is a name to watch on the second day.
Of course, the 2025 recruiting classes for both programs will become a major focus on the second day of the draft. Both Texas and Texas A&M saw important signees taken on Sunday, making it unlikely they end up on campus. Can the Aggies and Longhorns hang onto the rest of their blue chips?

Texas baseball players and signees chosen on the second day of the 2025 MLB Draft
Moroknek announced his intention to transfer to Texas earlier this summer after spending the last two seasons at Butler. He was a star in the Big East in 2025, hitting 18 home runs while posting a .372 batting average and a 1.145 OPS. He was chosen by the Washington Nationals with the No. 321 pick and must now decide whether to attend Texas or turn pro.
The first player from last year’s Texas team drafted on the second day was Spencer, a hard-throwing lefthander with a wipeout slider. He suffered a shoulder injury that shortened his season and tanked his draft stock, but pitched to a 3.27 ERA in the SEC before the Toronto Blue Jays selected him with the No. 322 pick.
Texas shortstop Jalin Flores fell to the 11th round after a down 2025 season in which he hit .239 with 13 home runs and a .809 OPS. As a sophomore, though, he was outstanding, posting a .340 average and 1.064 OPS to go with 18 home runs. The Cardinals chose him with the No. 330 overall pick. Now, he’ll decide whether to sign or return to school.
An important transfer pickup for the Longhorns this offseason, Dotson was picked 333rd overall by the Arizona Diamondbacks. The lefthander pitched in 18 games out of the bullpen and accumulated 34 strikeouts in 32 innings of work while pitching to a 3.09 ERA.
Considered the No. 176 prospect in the class by MLB.com, Rylan Galvan fell all the way to the 13th round, where he was chosen by the Chicago White Sox with pick No. 376. Galvan, a junior, could elect to return to Texas for his senior season. He was named first-team All-SEC after batting .296 with a .1065 OPS and 15 home runs this year.
P Xavier Mitchell
A lefthanded pitcher, Xavier Mitchell ranked among the most promising recruits in Texas’ signing class. The Angels chose the Prestonwood High School product in the 13th round, giving him a decision to make in the coming weeks.
UT Kaleb Freeman
Georgia State transfer Kaleb Freeman announced his intent to play for Texas earlier this summer. Whether or not he makes it to the 40 Acres is now a major question after the White Sox chose him in the 16th round. The switch-hitter batted .349 and slugged 16 home runs in the Sun Belt last year.
The Longhorns took Saunier, a righthander, on as a reclamation project of sorts after two difficult seasons at Ole Miss. Pitching out of the bullpen, he delivered, notching a 3.86 ERA in 12 appearances. That was enough for the Houston Astros to take him with pick No. 516 in the 17th round. He still has a season of eligibility remaining, so he’ll have to decide whether to turn pro or return to Texas.
The second Longhorn signee chosen on Monday, Boles is a tall righthanded pitcher out of California who was selected in the 18th round by the Kansas City Royals. He’ll be a name to monitor as to whether or not he makes it to campus.
Texas A&M baseball players and signees chosen on the second day of the 2025 MLB Draft
One of the centerpieces of the Aggies’ recruiting class, Hartshorn was picked by the Chicago Cubs in the sixth round with the 181st overall choice. His slot value is about $356,000 as he chooses whether to turn pro or attend college.
A highly coveted transfer from Long Beach State, Myles Patton spent the 2025 season at Texas A&M, where he logged a 5.26 ERA in 15 starts, striking out 82 strikeouts in 77 innings. A junior, he’ll now decide whether to sign with the Red Sox, who selected him with the 208th overall pick, or return to school. His slot value is listed at roughly $285,000.
Kaiden Wilson became the second Aggie lefthander to come off the board on day two. The draft-eligible sophomore pitched in 22 games in relief in 2025, compiling a 4.43 ERA. Selected 258th overall by the Miami Marlins, he has a slot value of roughly $210,000 and will now decide whether he returns to College Station or signs with the Marlins.
Wyatt Henseler was the third Texas A&M player to come off the board on the second day of the draft. The University of Pennsylvania transfer hit .319 with a .985 OPS and 12 home runs during his only season playing for the Aggies as a senior.
Ryan Prager followed up on a dominant 2024 by posting a 4.21 ERA in 15 starts during the 2025 campaign. The lefty fell to the ninth round of the draft, where he was selected with pick No. 282 by the Cleveland Guardians, holding a slot value of $197,000.
A key member of the Texas A&M signing class, Boughton was selected by the White Sox with the No. 316th pick of the draft. With no slot values assigned after the 10th round, his name will be one to watch among the key college prospects who must decide whether to sign as a pro or come to campus.
Jackson appeared in 18 games for the Aggies out of the bullpen last season, pitching to a 6.87 ERA. But he’s been strong in three starts in the Cape Cod League so far this summer. A junior, he must now decide whether he’ll sign with the Tampa Bay Rays, who took him 327th overall, or come back for his senior season.
Bullard was chosen by the Toronto Blue Jays out of Klein Cain High School with the No. 352 overall pick. Considered a top 120 prospect by MLB.com, the switch-hitting outfielder must choose whether to sign or attend Texas A&M by July 28.
P Chase Bentley
A righthanded arm out of IMG Academy in Florida, Bentley was chosen by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 19th round, becoming the fifth Aggies signee drafted. He’ll now decide whether to come to school or turn pro.
