The Major League Baseball All Star Game has come and gone. Now baseball fans are turning their attention to the next milestone marker in the season schedule…that trade deadline.

When Is The MLB Trade Deadline?

The MLB trade deadline is Thursday, July 31st at 6pm Eastern. Which gives teams about 3 weeks to figure out if they’re “buyers” or “sellers”. Those terms translate to “will a team trade away future assets to get firepower to finish this season” or “will they send off veteran players in exchange for prospects to help in the future”. The deciding factor for most teams is where they stand in the playoff hunt.

Will The Texas Rangers Be Buyers Or Sellers At The Deadline?

Since the Texas Rangers have struggled to stay above the .500 mark this year, they have about two weeks to win a lot of games before they become sellers. If they can rip off wins in 80%+ of their upcoming games, they might stay together. But if they’re still pretty out of the race for the AL West, or the Wild Card, they might be moving players.

One writer thinks they will be sellers, and they’re going to try and pull off a “monster trade”.

What Would Be A “Monster Trade” For The Texas Rangers?

Fansided reporter Nick Villano see the Texas Rangers moving fan-favorite slugger Adolis Garcia at the trade deadline. A deal that Newsweek has labeled a “monster trade”. Its a feeling that might be shared by Rangers fans too.

Garcia blasted onto the baseball scene in 2021, becoming an instant All Star, and finishing 4th in Rookie of the Year voting. He hit 31 home runs his first full season, and hasn’t hit less than 25 home runs in a season since. Garcia has also played great defense, winning a Gold Glove as well.

In 2023, Garcia was a big part of the Rangers World Series championship season. Something that Rangers fans will always remember him for.

Who Would The Rangers Trade Adolis Garcia To?

So what could the Rangers get in return for Garcia? Probably one higher tier prospect, and a mid tier prospect from a franchise. They probably wouldn’t be able to score the “top prospect” in anyone’s minor league system, but they could get some quality prospects that could help the team in the future.

Right now, many reporters believe there are a few teams that would try to get Garcia from the Rangers. According to YardBarker, those include the Los Angeles Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies, and the New York Mets. That’s good news for the Rangers, because those teams have good farm systems.

Bleacher Report re-ranked the farm systems after the draft, and these three teams are still in the top half of the league. The Mets have the 15th ranked farm system, the Phillies have the 5th best, and the Dodgers the 4th best. Now sometimes those rankings are based heavily on the very top of the system, so it might not be exactly what the Rangers are hoping for, but they could get some quality in a “monster trade” to send Garcia away. Either way, it would be a sad day for baseball fans in Texas.
