GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Five players from this year’s Alpine Bank Junior College World Series heard their names called during the Major League Baseball Draft in Atlanta this week each with a different journey, but all showing they have what it takes.
Walters State right-hander Aidan Robertson was the first off the board, selected in the 13th round by the Texas Rangers. Robertson impressed during his two starts in Grand Junction, racking up 15 strikeouts and two wins on his way to earning All-Tournament honors. Despite the selection, Robertson plans to continue his college career at Virginia Tech.

The Rangers doubled down in the JUCO pool, taking Salt Lake pitcher Jaxon Grossman in the 16th round. Grossman dominated during the tournament, earning two wins and posting a 2.45 ERA en route to being named the event’s top pitcher. He is committed to the University of Oklahoma.
Johnson County’s Denton Biller followed nine picks later, selected by the Baltimore Orioles. Biller made just one appearance in the World Series but made it count striking out six in just over three innings. The freshman is committed to the University of Arkansas.
In the 15th round, the Tampa Bay Rays picked McLennan right-hander Alex Wallace. Although Wallace missed the JUCO World Series due to injury, his regular season performance stood out: a 7-2 record with 52 strikeouts in 42 innings. If he returns to college, he’s committed to Baylor.
Rounding out the group was Blinn College’s Hayden Morris, taken in the 19th round by the New York Yankees. Morris called the moment a blessing, but announced his intent to return to Blinn for another season.
