On Tuesday, the Roswell Invaders hosted the Santa Fe Fuego for a one-game series.

The Invaders entered this matchup with a 9-31 record and were coming off a victorious three-game sweep against the Alpine Cowboys. The Fuego came in at 11-26 and are fresh off a two-game home series against the Garden City Wind, in which the Fuego and Wind split the series 1-1. This is the first time this season that the Invaders and Fuego faced off against one another.

The matchup was a show of offense, with both teams scoring double-digit runs and scoring in seven out of the nine innings of the game. For the majority of the game, both teams would match each other’s runs to keep the game close. The thing that decided the winner of the game was in the sixth inning when the Fuego outscored the Invaders 9-1 to open a 23-13 lead. That lead would be too big to come back from for the Invaders, as the Fuego would win 24-17. The Invaders record would fall to 9-32, while the Fuego would jump to 12-26.

As a team, the Invaders had 15 total hits and were walked 13 times. Yoinis Aleksandrov (11) had the most hits on the team with three. On defense, the Invaders committed three errors. Michael Martinez (19) was the starting pitcher for the Invaders and took the loss. He pitched 5.0 innings, struck out seven batters and walked none, allowing 13 hits and 11 runs. Four other pitchers combined to finish the game for the Invaders.

The Fuego had 21 hits and were walked 10 times. Christian Martinez (4) led the team in hits with four, with one of those being a home run. Saul Razo (91) added two more home runs. On defense, the Fuego committed three errors. Amilcar Arano (94) was the Fuego starting pitcher and notched the win. He pitched 5.0 innings, struck out one batter, and walked five, allowing 12 hits and 10 runs. Wu KaunJu (45) and Quinton Copeland (11) commenced to finish the game on the mound.

The Invaders’ next home game is a rematch against the Fuego on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
