Former Nixa baseball standout Wyatt Vincent has been selected by the New York Mets in the 2025 MLB Draft.
Vincent was selected in the 11th round with the No. 343 overall pick. He finished his career as one of the best hitters in Eagles history.
Signed with Missouri State baseball, Vincent said he called Bears coach Joey Hawkins to inform him that he will be signing with the Mets and begin his professional career. He has been playing in the Appalachian League this summer and worked out with the Texas Rangers, Miami Marlins and Mets in recent months.
Vincent was informed during the eighth round that the Mets were hoping to take him in either the 11th or 12th round. During a break following the 10th round, he and his family, while in southern Virginia, went to Walmart to prepare a baseball for him to sign.
While in a hotel room, the Vincent family watched as his name was called from an iPad, prompting a flurry of phone calls, text messages, and Snapchats from friends expressing their newfound love for the Mets.
“I don’t know what could top this right now,” Vincent said. “The overwhelming support from everybody is unbelievable.”
Wyatt Vincent scouting report
Vincent was a multi-sport star at Nixa, particularly in baseball and football. As a wide receiver, Vincent was a deep-threat, hauling in 64 passes for 1,494 yards and 18 touchdowns since his sophomore year. He’s the rare athlete to help lead teams to state appearances in baseball, football and basketball during their career.
On the diamond, Vincent has been considered a high-caliber prospect since he stepped onto the Nixa field as a freshman. His supreme athleticism in centerfield can make hard-hit balls into the gaps look like routine flyouts. He hits with power and is always a threat to swipe a base.
Wyatt Vincent rankings
ESPN MLB Draft insider Kiley McDaniel recently ranked Vincent as the No. 247 prospect in the upcoming draft. Only Lone Jack High School left-handed pitcher Ethan Rogers is ranked higher out of Missouri.
