WEST WARWICK – The final score was 10-0 via the mercy rule, but Wednesday’s Division II softball clash between West Warwick and Johnston was anything but lopsided. That is, until the bottom of the sixth inning rolled around.
Clinging to a 1-0 lead courtesy of a third inning RBI single by Adrianna Carsetti and a masterful pitching performance by sophomore Bryce Principe, the Wizards unloaded on Johnston deliver Savannah Paquin, plating nine runs against her in the final half inning of play en route to the early finish.
“This looked like it was going to play out as a 1-0, 2-0 game and then luckily, we made the adjustments at the plate. It showed in the end during that last inning,” Wizards head coach Brian Palazzo said, his team improving to 7-4 with the win.
Catcher Madison Walsh put the finishing touches on West Warwick’s nine-run outburst with a two-run walk-off home run over the center field fence.
