CLEVELAND — The Guardians looked to keep their recent streak — which began the week before the All-Star break — going against the Athletics at Progressive Field on July 19, but the lineup fell back into a slump in an 8-2 loss.

After an absolutely brutal June in which the Guardians had the least productive offense in the majors by a wide margin, Cleveland had averaged 6.1 runs over the last eight games entering July 19, including an 8-6 win over the A’s July 18.

Guardians All-Star left fielder Steven Kwan was again out of the lineup as he deals with a right wrist issue.

Here’s how the Guardians-A’s game unfolded on July 19 at Progressive Field.

Guardians fall to A’s

The Guardians totaled only three hits to the Athletics’ 11, and Cleveland lost to the A’s 8-2. After a nice run in which the Guardians averaged more than six runs a game, they fell back into their pre-break offensive struggles.

Jacob Wilson 2-run home run gives A’s insurance runs vs Guardians

Denzel Clarke tripled to right-center field and then, with Kolby Allard on the mound, Jacob Wilson hit a two-run home run that just cleared the 19-foot wall in left field, making it a 7-2 A’s lead.

Kurtz then added a solo home run, as the A’s continue to pile on the Guardians bullpen.

Shea Langeliers home run extends A’s lead

The A’s have opened up a 5-2 lead via a Shea Langeliers two-run home run to right field off of Nic Enright.

Langeliers is now 2-for-4 with three RBIs. And that might have been the dagger considering how cold the Guardians lineup has looked tonight.

Guardians trail A’s entering 8th inning

The Guardians have mustered only three hits and will enter the eighth inning trailing the A’s 3-2.

Logan Allen allowed three runs on eight hits with four strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. Matt Festa finished the sixth and Nic Enright entered to open the seventh, throwing a clean inning. He’s also opening the eighth inning on the mound.

A’s lead by 1 run after 5 innings over Guardians

The Guardians’ run production came all on one swing in the third inning, and the Athletics’ production was via a four-batter run in the fourth, and the A’s still lead 3-2. Luis Severino and Logan Allen, outside of those respective spurts, have both been solid tonight, otherwise.

Leading off the top of the fourth, Brent Rooker, Nick Kurtz and Shea Langeliers hit back-to-back doubles, all to right field, to tie it before Miguel Andujar singled to bring home a third run and give the A’s a 3-2 lead.

Jose Ramirez home run gives Guardians lead over A’s

Nolan Jones singled for the Guardians’ first hit of the night, and Jose Ramirez followed by crushing a two-run home run to right field. That was his 19th home run of the season.

It’s 2-0 Guardians.

Cleveland is just glad to still have Jose Ramirez in the lineup after a brief scare for the home crowd at Progressive Field. On a pick-off attempt, Luis Severino hit Ramirez in the back with the throw. Ramirez appeared to be in some pain, but he’s remaining in the game.
