NEW LONDON — Notre Dame High School baseball coach Chris Chiprez has been searching high and low to find a way to get his team to break out of its recent hitting funk.
Whatever Chiprez did, he hit on something big.
Notre Dame erupted for 13 runs on 17 hits in a 13-2 shellacking of New London in an SEI Super Conference South Division game Monday at the New London Ball Fields.
It was the second straight game the Nikes scored 13 runs, and with six more games on the docket this week, it comes at an opportune time.
Notre Dame plated two runs in the first inning, then piled on eight more in the second and two more in the third in the five-inning game.
Maddox Diewold went 4-for-4 and scored three runs for the Nikes. Landry Haberichter, Eli Oleson, Kyler Cameron, Payne Prottsman and Kinser Tripp each had two hits.
Jeremiah Crown and Haberichter each had a double.
Haberichter, Crow, Oleson and Cameron each had two RBI, while Haberichter, Crow, Oleson and Tatum Warner each scored two runs.
Haberichter, Warner and Tripp combined on a four-hitter with five walks and eight strikeouts.
Memphis Watson went 2-for-4 with a double to lead the Tigers. Gavin Menke-Bailey drove in both runs.
After playing Van Buren County on Tuesday, Notre Dame plays Class 1A’s eight-ranked Kee and Roland-Story on Wednesday in the Waterloo Tournament.
After playing Danville on Tuesday at Community Field, New London is scheduled to host Central Lee on Thursday and Van Buren County on Friday.
