Firefighter Blasted For His ‘Childish’ Baseball Field Move originally appeared on The Spun.

A firefighter is getting blasted for his “childish” response to a baseball field incident this week.

According to reports, a team called the Thunderbolts was taking pre-game batting practice at Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, Maryland. During batting practice, as is customary, one of the players hit a ball over the fence and over some protective netting. It struck a nearby truck belonging to a firefighter.

The ball struck a firefighter’s black pickup truck at Silver Spring Fire Station 16, which is right behind the field. The fireman reportedly responded by unleashing his hose onto the field.

Video of the incident has since gone viral.

Despite previously being warned, the car was still parked there.

“Personnel from the fire department have been told consistently by park staff that that is a dangerous area to park and leave your vehicle,” Thunderbolts founder and director Dick O’Connor said.

The firefighting department has since issued an apology.

“We want to express our sincere apologies to the players, teams, Cal Ripken League, and all fans and families impacted by this disruption,” the statement read. “We understand how important this venue is to the community and especially to the young athletes who look forward to these events.”

“While the fire station and ballfield have long shared this space as neighbors, we recognized that incidents like this can have a real impact — and we take that seriously.”
