SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The former top prospect in baseball is headed back to the big leagues.

The Mets recalled catcher Francisco Alvarez from Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday.

Alvarez had been tearing it up in Triple-A since his demotion in late June and had rediscovered his power. Through 19 games at the Triple-A level, he hit 11 home runs, including a 420-foot shot for Syracuse in an 8-6 win over the Norfolk Tides on Sunday.

Alvarez slashed .299/.397/.836 with 24 RBIs for Syracuse.

His original demotion was caused by lackluster play behind the plate defensively as well as a cold spell in the batter’s box.

The Mets host the Los Angeles Angels for a three-game series in Queens starting Monday.
