CLEVELAND — The Guardians look to take the series with July 20’s rubber match against the Athletics at Progressive Field.
The Guardians came out of the All-Star break on a high note with a win July 18, but were then beaten badly July 19.

Gavin Williams (5-4, 3.70 ERA) takes the mound for Cleveland opposite left-hander Jeffrey Springs (8-6, 3.93 ERA) for the Athletics.
All-Star left fielder Steven Kwan, dealing with a wrist issue, is again out of the Guardians starting lineup. Angel Martinez is instead hitting leadoff.

The Guardians have taken the series against the Athletics with an 8-2 win on July 20. Gavin Williams was terrific and the top two hitters in the lineup — Angel Martinez and David Fry — powered the way.

Guardians cruising past Athletics
Angel Martinez is having a heckuva day in the leadoff spot. After the Guardians loaded the bases and brought home a run on a sacrifice fly by Brayan Rocchio, Martinez hit an RBI single to center field to make it an 8-2 lead.
Martinez is now 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, two runs scored and two RBIs.
Gavin Williams finished with 11 Ks and four hits allowed in seven innings.

Angel Martinez added on with a solo homer in the seventh inning to extend Cleveland’s lead to 6-1. Martinez is 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, two runs scored and an RBI today.

Guardians, Athletics score: Wild pitch cuts into Guardians lead
The Athletics haven’t done much with the bats today, so scoring via a wild pitch is almost fitting. That first run in the fifth inning has made it a 5-1 Guardians lead.
Williams is up to 10 strikeouts with three hits allowed today.

David Fry has 4 RBIs after 3-run double; Guardians, Athletics score update
David Fry is having himself a day, already with four RBIs through the first four innings.
Fry stepped to the plate with the bases loaded in the fourth inning and hit a bases-clearing double down the left-field line that rattled around the left-field corner, making it 5-0 Guardians.

Fry, who has really struggled since returning from elbow surgery, is 2-for-2 with four RBIs and a double.

Austin Hedges scores Will Wilson to extend Guardians lead over Athletics
Austin Hedges, arguably the best least productive hitter in the majors this season, has an RBI single today to score Will Wilson, who doubled, in the second inning.

David Fry’s RBI single gives Guardians early lead
The Guardians have nearly matched their hit total from last night in the first two batters of the game.
Facing Athletics lefty Jeffrey Springs, Angel Martinez opened the game with a double and David Fry followed with an RBI single to put Cleveland up 1-0.
