OHIO — It’s been a few years since Cleveland’s baseball team made the switch from the Indians to the Guardians, completely rebranding its look.
The team’s name has once again reentered the spotlight after President Donald Trump took to truth social on Sunday, saying he wants the team to go back to it’s former name, saying there was a “big clamoring for this.”
Additionally, he is threatening to hold up a new stadium deal for Washington’s NFL team if it does not restore its old name of the Redskins, which was considered offensive to Native Americans.
The Guardians’ owners don’t seem to be on board, saying they haven’t been tracking the name change or paying a lot of attention too.
Sports expert Andy Baskin, of 93.2 The Fan, said he doesn’t believe this call for change won’t gain much traction. Watch the full interview above.
