Yesterday saw the Yankees get some less-than-stellar pitching at the start, rally to overcome that, only to get some less than stellar pitching at the end, dropping the second game of their series against the Athletics. Thanks to that, today’s series finale will now be a rubber match at Sutter Health Field.
Due to moving around their rotation after Clarke Schmidt’s scratch last week and the release of Carlos Carrasco, the Yankees are again turning to Ryan Yarbrough for a start. He performed admirably in an emergency role when Schmidt got scratched back on May 3rd, allowing one run in four innings against the Rays. Other than allowing four runs back on April 3rd, he’s been pretty good in general, putting up a 2.04 ERA over his last 17.2 innings in his last seven appearances.
As for the rest of the Yankees’ lineup, Trent Grisham will get the day off, as Clay Bellinger is in at center, with Aaron Judge in right. Meanwhile, Jorbit Vivas is back in at second base for this afternoon’s clash.
The Yankees’ lineup will be tasked with taking on an old friend as Luis Severino gets the start for the A’s. Sevy has been pretty good so far this season, although he did give up four runs in six innings against the Mariners last time out. This will be his first career start against the team that signed him 14 years ago.
It may be Mother’s Day, but we hope you can come join us in the game thread for at least some of this afternoon’s action!
