Paredes made his MLB debut with the Detroit Tigers during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season and spent two years with the franchise before being traded to the Tampa Bay Rays.
After breaking out with the Rays in 2024, they capitalized on his value and traded him to the Cubs, where he appeared in just 52 games before heading to Houston as part of the blockbuster deal for superstar Kyle Tucker.
Paredes has established himself as a versatile offensive force over the past two seasons, earning two consecutive All-Star appearances despite frequent changes of scenery.

Paredes suffered a right hamstring injury during Saturday’s matchup with the Seattle Mariners and was removed from the game. Through an interpreter, he said he will return to Houston tomorrow to be evaluated. He said this hamstring injury initially “hurts more than the other one,” which kept him out for three games in June via Matt Kawahara.
In a corresponding move, the Astros have called up Shay Whitcomb and Jon Singleton from Triple-A to join the team on Sunday in Seattle.

Paredes has primarily played third base and occasionally served as the designated hitter, so the Astros must now decide who will fill his spot in the lineup. Shay Whitcomb joins Zack Short and Mauricio Dubon as candidates at the hot corner, while Singleton and Jose Altuve could see increased time as DH.
Paredes has been exceptional in his first year with the Astros. Over 94 games, he’s posted a .259 batting average, an .829 OPS and 19 home runs.
