PHOENIX — Arizona Diamondbacks All-Star Eugenio Suarez crushed two home runs in his first two plate appearances on both Saturday and Sunday against the St. Louis Cardinals at Chase Field.

After a two-homer night in Saturday’s 10-1 win, Suarez walloped two pitches over the left-field wall within the first three innings of Sunday’s 5-3 win against Cardinals starter Miles Mikolas.

Suarez only trails Seattle catcher Cal Raleigh (eight) in multi-homer games this season with six. Arizona’s franchise record for multi-homer games is eight from Luis Gonzalez in 2001. Steve Finley (1999) and Yasmany Tomas (2016) are the only two with seven.

The Diamondbacks took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Corbin Carroll tripled to lead off for the second straight game and scored on a fielder’s choice. With two runners on, Suarez obliterated a high slider 425 feet, off the bat at 111.7 mph.

With two outs in the third, Suarez attacked a first-pitch slider and shot it to left. The ball bounced off the top of the wall and into the bullpen for a 5-1 lead.

That second home run gave Suarez 35 on the season, the second most he’s hit in a campaign, trailing 49 (2019).

It also gave him the National League lead over Shohei Ohtani for the time being, as Ohtani homered between Suarez’s two blasts to tie the Diamondback up.

Suarez had never hit multiple home runs in consecutive games before Sunday, per the D-backs.

He has hit six long balls in his last five games played, and he blasted two home runs in Arizona’s penultimate game before the All-Star break.
