Corbin Carroll surprised D-backs Nike RBI baseball and softball All-Star teams with new uniforms and gear before the players from 12 Arizona schools head to a regional tournament in Seattle this weekend.
Athletes from the schools arrived at Chase Field on Tuesday believing they were merely coming to the ballpark for batting practice and the D-backs game before Carroll treated them to some new Nike swag.
“I just wanted to say we emphasize how proud we are of you guys,” Carroll told the youth players on Tuesday. “The job that you guys do representing the Diamondbacks in the community is really cool.”

The players received the Diamondbacks’ new City Connect uniforms, Nike cleats, backpacks and more ahead of their trip. The D-backs Baseball Academy’s summer league selected the players onto the two Nike RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) All-Star teams via support from the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation.
The athletes are made up of students from 12 high schools around the state including:
Glendale’s Apollo High School
Phoenix’s Alhambra High School
Phoenix’s Carl Hayden High School
Phoenix’s Cesar Chavez High School
Phoenix’s Maryvale High School
Phoenix’s South Mountain High School
Phoenix’s Trevor Browne High School
San Luis’ San Luis High School
Tucson’s Tucson High School
Tucson’s Sunnyside High School
Yuma’s Yuma High School
Yuma’s Kofa High School.
This will be the first time many of the students play in a Major League field, travel on an airplane and experience first-class accommodations, the team said.
“This year it’s been pretty cool,” Carroll told reporters on Tuesday. “They are going to continue on. It sounds like we’ve got 12 athletes on the boys’ side that are going to be playing in that local juco series. And so to be just even in these first couple years, the growth in that regard and the quality of player that is being developed is really inspiring. It just makes me excited for what can come in the future.”
The D-backs Nike RBI program was founded in 2020. The free youth outreach program is for children ages 5-18 and provides those in under-served communities the opportunity to play baseball and softball.
