Firefighter allegedly floods baseball field with fire hose after ball hits his vehicle

  • July 23, 2025

SILVER SPRING, Md. (WJLA) – A firefighter in Maryland is accused of using a hose to intentionally flood a baseball field after his car was hit by a baseball.

Video shared by players with the Silver Spring Takoma Thunderbolts baseball team shows their field being sprayed by a fire hose Thursday evening.

The team believes a Montgomery County Fire and Rescue firefighter did it on purpose.

The team was forced to cancel their game.

Players said someone previously hit a ball that landed near the fire station parking lot, and they believe it damaged someone’s personal vehicle.

One member of the team claims the firefighter even admitted to planning to flood the field.

“And one of our players heard someone from the firehouse say, ‘Oh, hey, watch out. We don’t want you to get wet,’” Aidan Driscoll said. “And he said, ‘I’m going to shoot the water onto the field.’ And literally probably two minutes later, all we saw was that massive stream in the video, basically just shooting directly into the center field.”

Dick O’Connor, the founder and director of the Thunderbolts, went and spoke to the fire captain after the incident.

“All I know is that when I went and talked to the captain, he said that he admitted that he did it. And he said he wanted to get our attention,” O’Connor said.

Pete Piringer, spokesperson for the Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service, is now apologizing on behalf of the department.

“Of course, we want to apologize, not only to the players and the league and the fans, but to the community at large here. It’s something that was very unfortunate, so we are looking into that,” Piringer said.
