SALEM, VA. — Trevor Harrison tossed six strong innings and the Charleston RiverDogs took the second game of the series against the Salem Red Sox 6-3 on July 23.
Harrison allowed just one run in six innings, allowing just five hits while striking out four to improve to 7-2 and lower his ERA to 2.59. Salem was able to score a pair of runs against reliever Andy Rodriguez in the seventh, but Moises Palma tossed the final two scoreless innings to pick up his first save.
Charleston (14-10 first half, 49-41 overall) has now won six of its last seven.
Angel Mateo gave Charleston a 1-0 lead in the third on an RBI single to score Narciso Polanco.
The RiverDogs added three runs the following inning highlighted by an RBI single by Jose Perez and an RBI double by Polanco that made it 4-0.
Nathan Flewelling singled in Perez in the sixth to make it 5-0.
Perez finished 2 for 2 with an RBI and two runs scored for Charleston, while Larry Martinez — coming off a big game in the series opener — went 2 for 5 with a double. Polanco doubled, walked, drove in a run and stole a base.
