Arlington, TX. – The Texas Rangers faced off against the Athletics on Wednesday night, trying for the series sweep. Patrick Corbin went for Texas while the Athletics sent JP Sears to the hill.
Before the game Jon Gray was activated from the Injured List and Luke Jackson was designated for assignment by the team.
Jackson began as the team’s closer, but after an injury he was moved to a set up role. He was 2-5 with a 4.11 ERA on the season.
The Rangers Offense
The Rangers have had trouble with Sears in the past, and he was on again tonight.
“Sears has been tough on us. He’s been really, really tough on us, we found a way to score runs” manager Bruce Bochy told us after the game. “Corey really smoked that ball, and really other than that we didn’t do a whole lot against him.”
Texas completed their 3-game sweep of the Athletics with a 2-1 victory tonight. It’s the Rangers 5th victory in the past 6 games, and the are 8-2 in their last 10.
Pitching Still the Key
The Rangers have also allowed 2 or fewer runs in 7 straight games dating back to July 13. They have allowed one or fewer runs in 28 games in the 2025 season.
Corey Seager extended his on base streak to 24 games with his third inning homer off of Sears.
With Kyle Higashioka sidelined with a sore hammy, Jonah Heim played behind the dish and had the game winning RBI double at the plate on a very odd play for the Athletics, as the ball fell between two fielders.
The Texas Rangers now sit at 53-50, just 1.5 games out of the wild card and 7.5 games behind Houston for the division lead.
“I would say we’re playing well. This is a game that, well, a lot of these have gotten away from us, so it’s good to win this one.” Boch said.
“Its a good vibe we got going on, we’re playing with a lot of confidence”.
The Rangers are now 3 games over .500 for the first time since May 17, when they had a record of 25-22.
Thursday is an off day before the Atlanta Braves come into town of Friday.
