Former Ohio University baseball closer Jake Roehn died unexpectedly at age 30.Roehn’s final season for the Bobcats was in 2018, finishing his career with the program’s all-time record with 29 saves.After a brief professional career, Roehn transitioned to coaching and later project management.The cause of death was not released publicly.

Ohio University’s baseball program is mourning the death of Jake Roehn, a closer who spent five years in Athens and helped the Bobcats win two conference titles.

Roehn, 30, finished his collegiate career with 29 saves, the all-time mark for Ohio University pitchers. He died unexpectedly on July 16, 2025, in Phoenix, Arizona, and the cause of death hasn’t been made public.

Roehn, who was from the small town of Sandwich, Illinois, played four seasons for the Bobcats and redshirted in 2015 as a sophomore due to an unspecified medical condition. The program’s official twitter account posted an update about Roehn’s death on July 22, lauding his on-field accolades while describing him as an “amazing teammate and friend” who will be missed.

Following his collegiate career, Roehn played one season of professional baseball for the Windy City Thunderbolts of the independent Frontier League before becoming an assistant coach at Regis University in Denver, Colorado. 

Most recently, Roehn worked as a deputy project manager for a construction company in Mesa, Arizona.
